Loud vs Quiet Spreads
These two spreads are the sum of a three-part project: write a summary of the textbook chapter covering grids in design, take photos of grids outside, and design spreads. Each had to demonstrate the difference between quiet and loud, text-driven and photo-driven design.
While the same copy is used for both spreads, they have different titles and tones..
The first spread is titled, “Your Crazy-Ass Uncle May Want To Be Off Them, But You Shouldn’t.” This was designed to demonstrate loudness as well as text-driven design. Due to the illegibility of the copy, this is meant to be an introduction spread to the article.
The second spread is titled, “Proportional Systems and the Grid,” and it was created to be quieter than the other spread. The image was one of 40 taken to demonstrate grids in the outside world, and was chosen for the litterer’s blatant disregard of the grid in the stonework.
